Let's grab another series Royals. Shields on the mound for the opener

Hopefully they can score more than 2 runs for him tonight.

That would be nice.

Looks like Dyson may go on DL. Lough probable call up. Look for him to get some AB's for everyone to see as he could be a valuable option for backup OF as it seems Frenchy's leash is shortening by the day.

They better, he might start screaming at some dudes in the dugout if they dont. But they say he is a great clubhouse dude, shows nothing but a fired up attitude on the hill. With his talent the wins will come eventually.

Should be able to win the series against a struggling A's team.

Shields on the mound tonight. Santana tomorrow.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/17/13 10:57 PM

Shields getting his usual run support. Why is that?

C'mon Royals! Get those bats going!!!

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/17/13 11:13 PM

Because the Royals offense is not good at the moment, simple as that.

Unfortunately, Shields seems to get the brunt of the struggles.

Looks like he's headed for another no-decision unless the Royals can get a run here in the 8th.

Great outing once again...would be nice to see him earn some W's for all these quality starts.

Poor Shields has to throw a shutout to be able to win a game. I hope he blows up on his guys.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/17/13 11:42 PM

I just don't know how much longer they can keep trotting Moustakas out there right now.

We're almost a quarter of the way through the season....you can't have your starting 3B hitting .189

And I do think it's starting to take its toll on him....after his 3rd AB tonight, he was visibly very angry in the dugout.

And poor Shields also doesn't seem like a happy camper.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/18/13 12:18 AM

Hell, Moose should want to get sent down for a couple of weeks just to get the pressure of of himself. .189. It's time to make the move.

Put Moose in Omaha for 2 weeks.

Bring up Gio....send down Moose....Gio at 2B, Johnson at 3B.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/18/13 10:07 PM

Based loaded, no outs equals no runs.
Runner on third, one out, no runs

Few teams in baseball piss away more opportunities than the Royals.

The KC offense needs Wil Myers

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 12:12 AM

You're right.

The guy hitting .250 for Durham with 4 HRs and 25 RBIs would totally save this offense.

Don't do this to me Royals.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 01:50 PM

There doing it...lost 9 of their last 12 is the bad news...The good news is their still 1 game above .500. Pitching is solid...zero offense however. How can it be fixed, and dont tell me another lineup change or that .250 hitter in Omaha.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 04:47 PM

Then by all means...let's keep trotting out the kid who is 1 for his 28, and is now hitting a robust .180

If you're fine with Moustakas being out there everyday right now, then you've accepted that this team is nothing more but at best a .500 team.

If that's the goal for you as a fan, that's cool.

But it shouldn't be.

I know that. I really don't know why you're bringing it up. It's just more to my point: he wouldn't be helping this team much, if any, right now.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:22 PM

Moose has to go down. No matter how much you believe in a kid, you don't keep him in your MLB lineup for 40 games hitting .180. He needs some time in Omaha. Put Tejada or Johnson at 3rd and bring up Johnny to man 2B.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:28 PM

what do you know, Kelvin Herrera gives up a homer late in the game.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:31 PM

Looks like a sweep.

Back to .500, and if the offense doesn't get going, it's only going to get worse.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:46 PM

And who ends up at the plate with two runners on and two outs but Mike Moustakas. Un-[censored]-believable.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:48 PM

Another loss directly attributable to Ned the Genius. Didn't see much of the game, but saw enough.

Top of 7th. Runners at 2nd and 3rd with a lefty pitching. Two out. Up 3-2. Do you...

a. Leave in your .180 left-handed hitter who is one for his last five thousand.
b. Pinch-hit with a .300+, right-handed hitter.

Ned's answer? Easy: a. You need to save Cain to pinch-hit when there are two out and a runner on at first.

Chen needs 6 pitches to get 3 outs in the 7th. Wow, better pull him for someone else, Ned. Herrera gives up the game-winner on his 2nd pitch in the 8th.

Good job, Ned.

And of course Moustakas shits down his leg to end the game.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 05:50 PM

Ned sucks sometimes. And I agree with your analysis of his two decisions today. But you can't put the offensive output entirely on his shoulders. 5 runs in 3 games against a sub-.500 team is inexcusable. Especially when you only give up 8.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 06:00 PM

Moose needs to be sent down. Yost needs to be fired. If those two things dont happen soon its going to be another typical crap year for the Royals. They arent even looking excited to be out there anymore, I put poor attitude of the team on the manager, no one else. Get rid of that fool.

Maybe not, but he could have definetly pinched hit for Moose with 2 on and 2 out. Especially since Moose was 0-4 already and 1 for what 25. The guy is a bust, dump him.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 06:15 PM

You are correct, 93, you can't blame him entirely for the offensive woes. But his insistence that Moose stay with the MLB club and playing him everyday plays a significant role in those offensive struggles.

Some of the blame lies with Moore. Signing Frenchy to that ridiculous contract is another significant factor in the issues with the offense.

Those are two huge holes in the lineup. The third large hole (2B) is harder to solve and I'm not nearly as critical of Moore or Yost for that issue.

Hosmer's struggles probably can't be linked directly to Yost or Moore unless you want to look at canning Seitzer at part of the reason. That's probably a stretch.

All things considered, this is still probably a 77-84 win team. With a good manager, I'd say they are more like 80-89. At least it is a substantial improvement over the Allard Baird days.

Re: Series 14: Royals @ A's - 05/19/13 07:22 PM

Good points.

If you ask me, the best things that the Royals could do at this point are as follows:

-Put Moose in AAA for at least a few weeks and let him get some confidence back. He has the potential to be great. But he started so poorly that he's not even in a good place mentally right now. The level of frustration that seems to accompany half of his outs is unhealthy. In the mean time, Johnson and Tejada can share 3B duties. Call up Giavotella to take Moose's spot for a bit.

-When Dyson gets back, put him in RF permanently. Francoeur has to go, and if the Royals can't do that without taking a financial hit, he has to ride the pine. He's a good guy, and a likable guy. But he just isn't a good major league ballplayer.

-Fire Yost, unless you think that doing so will rock the boat too much for a team that has a legitimate shot at competing. Yost rarely makes praiseworthy decisions, and while I don't think he's consistently terrible, he's bad enough to cost them a couple games. There has to be a decent manager available to replace him.

-Fill the hole at 2B. I don't think Getz is a good option, and I don't think Tejada is an every day option. I also don't believe Giavotella would be much of an improvement. In my opinion, the Royals should look for 2B (or a RF) on the trade market. I'm not sure who all will be available, but I know the Phillies haven't been very good. Chase Utley might be a good option, provided that the Phillies pay the lion's share of his remaining contract. The Royals surely could trade a back-end bullpen guy, perhaps in combination with a lesser prospect or two, to improve at 2B.

This team isn't going to win a World Series this year. But there is no excuse for them to be sub-.500. I have confidence that Billy will get back up to .300, but I'm less sure about Moose or Hosmer finding success. I think it is absolutely detrimental to leave the former up in the majors right now. He has been god awful.

So like I said, send Moose down and fire Yost. Who do you bring in as manager if you do that.
