Although I believe it's the Rangers year, you can't count out STL right now. Look at the roll they are on.

The Rangers are 25-9 since September 1st including the playoffs. Thats being on a roll.

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/16/11 11:08 PM

Cards are 25-12. And that includes knocking off 2 favorites in the Phillies and Brewers. Having Carpenter go G1 at home helps as well. This has the potential for an epic series.

Again, as I Cardinal fan I don't disagree. That team is a powerhouse and should be heavily favored to win this thing. Realistically, I would say Rangers in 6.

You live in Dallas, you haven't converted to one of the TX schools yet? I left the KC area in '93 and moved to JAX. I am still a Chiefs fan, I am still a Royals fan, and I will always be a Jayhawk fan in ALL things. Just becuse you relocate does not mean your allegiance to your teams has to change.

I see your point but this is a great sports town. Its like a metro college town. I dont get why everybody doesnt love the Rangers. They celebrate championships with mountain dew and ginger ale because one of their players is in recovery and they dont want him left out.

St.L in 7.

I'm not saying homefield advantage doesn't matter, but of the 4 major sports, it has to matter the least in MLB.

+1000. And when was the last time you saw a base hit like the one Berkman got. Chopped a foot from the plate and somehow finds its way into right field. That's the kind of sh!t they've been doing the past month.

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/20/11 09:34 AM

Luckily for Cruz it didn't go to the wall or that's a triple and another RBI.

Rangers downfall may be their pitching, which they rode the hot-hand all year. 6 walks from CJ Wilson and Ron Washington outmanaged 10-fold by Tony.

Cards win 1 game in Texas and it's back to STL. This series is FAR, FAR from over. Rangers have a bum Hamilton, so I dont think their hitting is going to magically appear.

A move to a warmer climate for a few games will do wonders for Hamilton I suspect.

Still warmer than what it was in St.Louis tonight.
Posted by: sdoyel

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/20/11 10:24 PM

I do think the warmer weather will benefit both team's bats. It's not like Texas' pitching is world-beater status either.

A groin injury is a groin injury. It's going to be tough to heal without consistent rest. One odd swing and Hamilton could be done.

Being an STL fan, winning 1 of the next 2 games and putting Carpenter on the mound for a crucial G5 swing game is huge. Either way, this series will be coming back to STL. 3-2 in someone's advantage.
Posted by: ku_painter

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/20/11 10:28 PM

Agree on the groin injury. One wrong step and he could be gone for good. This is going to come down to bullpen pitching. IMHO.

As a rare divorced (from the Cubs) Cubs fan and a Ranger convert beating the Cards woud be sweet. That said I really respect the cardinal fans. They are baseball smart and classy. I hope it only goes six but a game seven would be awesome TV.
Posted by: jaihaux

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/26/11 08:25 AM

Bullshite. Cardinal fans are no different than any other baseball fan.

1. Cardinal fans jizz in their pants on routine fly balls to medium-depth outfield. Just like everyone else.

2. Cardinal fans boo pick-off attempts to first base in high-pressure situations. Just like everyone else.

3. Cardinal fans scream "BALK!" on the fake-to-third-throw-to-first pickoff move and when pitchers pivot toward second base to look runners back.

4. Remember the great roided home run chase of 1998? Cardinal fans booed EVERY SINGLE BALL thrown to Mark McGwire, as if pitchers should have grooved him a fastball.

5. So Cardinal fans applaud a nice sac bunt? BFD. Most baseball fans appreciate a well-placed sac bunt by the pitcher, or in late innings.

I can find smart and knowledgeable baseball fans in every city. Kansas City has them. New York has then. Chicago (Cubs) has them. Heck, I bet even Tampa and Miami have them. This whole "Best Fans in Baseball" crap is just that - crap. The only reason Cardinal fans believe that is because they have proclaimed themselves as the best.

It's because of that I hate the Cardinals as much as the Red Sox and Yankees. Eff 'em all.

I've gotta say, the only fan experience that's rivaled the Fieldhouse for me was Game 163 in the Metrodome between the Tigers and Twins in 2009. Capped off a stunning run by the Twins and was potentially the last game in the history of that godawful building.

I have a Halloween Party tomorrow I would love to be able to start drinking and watching the game a 4pm and then head out to the party....

I think we're back to destiny again. A fairly routine fly ball to right and Cruz just mucked it up beyond belief. He actually slowed down, meaning had he jsut kept going back at regular speed he makes the catch.

I gotta agree with Mz Fenton.

That was a World Series winning catch and he didn't go all out to get it. If he makes that catch, he's a hero on the Wheaties Box next week.

He allowed himself to make the worst possible play on that ball... he either needed to go full speed, make the catch, and slam into the wall for the victory, or he needed to not go after the ball at all, and play the carom. If he hangs back and plays the carom well, he may be able to prevent the game from getting tied.

A big leager is expected to make one of those two plays to win a World Series, and he botched it by going half way in between.

It was a helluva game. But it might as well have been Game 7. I give the Rangers almost no chance of bouncing back. Especially if Carp goes.

If STL wins tmrw, Ron Washington will be looking for a job. You could see it on Ryan's face.

Hell, it was LaRussa who wound up having to bat a pitcher in the 10th. He was just lucky it was a natural bunting situation. If Jay's flare doesn't fall in you're looking at Kyle Lohse with two outs.

Washington had some strange decisions tonight. Esp. having Lewis bat with the bases loaded.

Luck. Luck. Luck. Nothing has actually occured due to circumstance. It was all luck tonight.

From everyone.

LUCK!

No word on Holliday other then he had a splint on his hand. I couldnt tell but to me it looked like he CUT his finger on Beltre's spike.

As a Cards fan, I think I'd rather start Craig in LF anyway.

@ESPNStatsInfo: History favors Cardinals in Game 7. Home team has won last 8 World Series Game 7s. Last WS Game 7 road win: 1979 Pirates

Momentum is a myth, especially in baseball.

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/28/11 03:15 AM

I agree to a degree Crimson, momentum is only as good as your next starter. Carpenter is pretty good, but so is this Texas lineup. Texas ain't gonna roll over and play dead because they blew a few chances tonight. That's the beauty of winning Game 5 in a 2-2 series, and baseball in general. Automatic 2 shots to win 1 game. Should be a great 7th game!

The last time Carp went on 3 days rest he had just pitched a CG against Houston.

This time he's coming off a 101 pitch outing in which he threw 45 breaking balls.

Gotta think he'll be a tad more fresh. Plus adrenaline.

Cards also have Lohse/Jackson on full rest ready to go.

If Harrison struggles for Texas they have Wilson on 3-days rest.

Last night sucked. My high school baseball team played at a higher level than the two teams last night. That was a poor excuse for MLB.

Re: World Series 2011 - 10/28/11 10:06 AM

Yes, I quit watching after the 3rd baseman blew a pop fly. Just incredible at that level. There was some other crappy play before that but that one did it. I could have seen better baseball at the Little League World Series.

It was a classic. Two teams with strong wills and a flair for the dramatic.

What happened in St. Louis Thursday ranks up there with the greatest finishes in sports history. That's not hyperbole - it's fact.

Congrats to Texas on a helluva season. And congrats to the World Champions in St. Louis. It was a comeback script Hollywood would have laughed off.
