How much cash? $3.99 so Jim Hendry could buy himself an Angus Burger at McDonalds? The Royals hopefully threw in a bag of orange baseballs, a half dozen used Gatorade cups, and a pine tar rag to sweeten the deal.

33 years old and a .269 career BA, .140 this year (albeit injured)?

An anus burger sounds about right.

Watch him hit .300+ for the Royals. I hope for the Royals sake he does.

Ha! The AP reports the Royals get the cash. Can that be right?

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/06/09 04:11 PM

Sure it can. I was watching the Flubs yesterday and they mentioned all these guys who have and don't have "options" in their contracts. Freel was a guy who I guess they couldn't "option" back to the minors. The Cubs had to pay the Royals to take him off their hands - too funny!

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/06/09 04:14 PM

All too funny...I misread the MLB article - it was in there, too:

The cash considerations from the Cubs are expected to cover part of Freel's reported $4 million salary.

3 million, 9 hundred 99 thousand, 9 hundred and 96 dollars more than the McAngus he is worth.

This Royals fan is speechless from the excitement.

What on earth do the Royals need Bloomquist II for? Is Moore going to chop shop them under the stadium, then put the best parts back together as some kind of uber-utility man named Ryllie Freelquist? Seriously, what's the freaking point of this move?

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/06/09 04:50 PM

Ryllie Freelquist may be the funniest thing I have ever read on here. If this latest move were not so pathetic I would be LMAO.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 01:10 PM

I was listening to 610 yesterday and they were saying that Freel's salary for this year is being covered by the Reds and the Cubs so the Royals get him for free this year. I hope he can pan out and play some good center field

Well then as long as the Royals are getting a marginal utility player to be in the starting lineup for free I just feel all kinds of better.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 03:19 PM

Hopefully, it's a sign that more deals are coming. We need a blockbuster trade that involves moving a bunch of players...something along the lines of what Detroit and San Diego did several years ago. Jayson Stark on Petro's show today did think the Royals might be moving Bannister.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 03:28 PM

Bannister might not be the greatest but I like him and he has been one of our better starters this year. If we do deal him I don't know what the heck we could get for him. Also we should sign pedro for the second half to take his place. Nice stop gap and we could catch lightning in a bottle.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 03:29 PM

Trading Bannister hardly screams blockbuster to me. Do you have anything else in mind and for what exactly would like the Royals to trade for?

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 03:34 PM

Nope, I meant blockbuster more in the number of players that would change teams.

Freel is a upgrade over Mitch Maier. I want a Center Fielder who has at least a little bit of HR power

Royals DFA Hernandez.

That means our can't-hit buddy remains on the roster.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 04:02 PM

I don't understand what the Royals fascination with Tony Pena Jr. is, he is a good defensive SS but he has no pop in his bat and he can't hit for average. He is a like a cockroach just hanging on the Royals roster

who do we have to replace him?

Home Run Power? Freel has 22 HR's in over 500 career at bats. How is that a power upgrade? I don't think we have really seen what MM is going to be yet compared to Freel who is a known commodity. BTW don't take this a a ringing endorsement for MM either. Honestly if all you want is someone who can play CF and has some pop I believe Jim Edmonds is still a FA. His ancient legs and bat would be far better than Bloomquist, Freel, or MM.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/07/09 09:46 PM

I think its upgrade because Mitch has zero career hr's.

Even of late he really hasn't impressed me defensively. There is zero reason he should be on any MLB roster.

I seriously hope that was tongue in cheek humor.

Re: Royals acquire Freel... - 07/08/09 06:51 AM

Freel is batting .333 for the Royals. I figured he would hit about .300 in a limited role. If he stayed on the Flubs he would have hit about .150. Good for Freel! He went somewhere that he can play and the fans might even cheer for him from time to time.

Not that I'm excited about the move, but maybe they want someone who can actually run the bases.

Jesus Christ, I leave for a week and we keep TPJ and trade for Ryan Freel?!?!?!?!

Where do I sign up for playoff tix?
