With all the money that is involved in Kansas basketball, you'd think they could spring for HD broadcasts of all home games. Very weak.

Ill take the fact I could see the players faces last night.

3 times improvement from The Spot.

Here in Lawrence, both channels were often herky-jerky. Also, there was an audible hum. But yeah, much better than 38 The Blur.

I gotta be honest. I didnt notice much a difference from last year, or the years before. But I'm on Sunflower, that could be the difference.

Re: Where's the HD? - 11/04/09 10:47 AM

It would cost KU 10's of millions of dollars to get set up to do HD for our local broadcasts. Not gonna happen anytime soon for the reasons listed below

http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=10410&ATCLID=1628388
* Currently there are not enough high-definition production trucks to provide HD for every collegiate telecast.
* Until the networks have enough HD trucks, they lease them from third-party providers. Geographical limitations on HD trucks leased on a game-by-game basis present logistical challenges in getting them around the country.
* The cost of building an HD truck is in excess of $12 million.
* Production studios have to be upgraded to HD equipment.

Re: Where's the HD? - 11/04/09 11:05 AM

yeah, i agree. this technology has been around long enough for them to be able get the games in HD.

hell lew perkins probably screwed alumni out of another $12 million just to get seats to last night's game. that's a drop in the bucket!

and you're talking only a million per school. it's not that much when you spread it out.

Not true, KSU and MU are not going to help pay for Jayhawk TV games in HD.

Big 12 Network games are already going to be HD

So Big 12 Network games will be brodcasted in HD? Has a schedule been released that shows which games will be Big 12 Network compared to JTV?

Re: Where's the HD? - 11/05/09 12:21 AM

i wish they had a mandatory HD broadcast deadline, like they had a mandatory digital deadline this past year.

....with a mandate that every channel has to broadcast (or at least simulcast) all new content in HD.
