Who stays?

Who goes?

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/23/19 11:08 PM

I will assume that right now we will have most of our team returning.

Grimes, Dotson, Ochai, Dok?, McCormack and the rest.

Wouldn't expect to see Lawson come back if he is a top 50 prospect. He should go pro if he has a chance. Don't see him improving that much more.

Lawson should go pro if he has the chance. I don't see him improving his stock going forward.

We don't need Charlie Moore or even the other Lawson. I like Marcus Garrett, but he has got to become a better shooter, at least from mid range.

Will Dok go pro?

Will Grimes stay around or move on in draft or to another team?

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/23/19 11:39 PM

Grimes, Dotson, Abaji and McCormick will be back. I hope the Lawsons and Moore leaves. I bet Dok goes but I would like to see him back. I like DeSouza but if he is not going to be eligible I don’t want him taking up a scholarship.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/23/19 11:44 PM

Silvio is just a pawn for the NCAA at this point. He might as well leave and go to Europe and sign a deal.

The last time we signed brothers, they both left at the same time, and can see that happen once again.

Dotson will be a better leader next season and I think that McCormack will be a better more improved player as well. Grimes is a crap shoot. He never impressed me at all. I think he is a bust, but could get better in time.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 12:02 AM

I think Dok comes back. He never really worked on what he needed to for NBA scouts to be High on him. Plus he needs a full healthy season to be anything more than a D league invite with his injury history.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 08:29 AM

KU needs some shooters. Especially big men that can stretch the floor.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 08:48 AM

Speaking of shooting, if Garrett can’t shoot better than he has shown so far there is just no spot for him at all.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 09:41 AM

We definitely need better shooting. Our defense has not looked good at all this year. We don't move our feet well, we don't anticipate, and we don't play with the frenetic energy I saw in Kstate, Ttech, and Auburn. Even if you are out-manned you can play with intensity and energy.

To me, it's been several years since we really locked down on defense consistently. You can weather an off shooting night if you play tough D.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 09:56 AM

It still mostly on Self....lazy recruiting...3 transfers..Vick fiasco. Heck he even admitted in his presser its his fault getting down big early because he only sent 2 back in transition defense when he should have sent 3. Same with not improving perimeter defense all season.

What were we running in the 2nd half...a extended triangle and two..if so why didnt he do that much earlier...Dang if he knows hes wrong why wont he evolve with the game...K has...other coaches has but the stubborn Okie wont. Maybe its time for new blood.

Give me the 4 year players hell with the so called 5* and oads. I'd rather have a decent player who is more concerned about an education than one looking forward to his shoe contract.

Ok michhawk...Bill wont build a team like that any longer...not going to happen.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 11:21 AM

I think we should get some players like Tyrell Reed and Brady Morningstar. Kids who grow up Jayhawks, and will do anything to see us win. Travis Releford would be another one those kind of players.

You have to have some 5star players to compete with the biggs in the nation. Talent still wins out.

Coaches have figured out how to beat our defense, and are getting players now to do it. 10 years ago, we had elite players who no matter what we did, were better than what we played against until the tourney.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/24/19 12:53 PM

NO, NO, NO on Brady Morningstar. Other than that I would like to see a mix of players. Some that are true one and dones as long as they fit in an provide impact. Give me a Josh Jackson, Embiid or Wiggins any day of the week and twice on Tuesday. Josh Selby and the like need not apply. Although it is sometimes hard to see which will be in the former group and which will be the latter. We all assumed Grimes would be the former. I bet Grimes stays for 3 years and ends up being pretty good. Then you want some players that stick around for a few years and then leave. Give me all the Chalmers and Rushes of the world. Lastly you want guys like Releford Reed and Kaun that stick around for 4 years. These are the glue guys and set the tone for the program.

Brandon would not have stayed if he hadn't got injured.

2020-2021 (Hindsight Year)

David McCormack and Silvio De Sousa will bring talked about winning a National Championship with a experience junior class and a one and done freshman.

David McCormack and Silvio De Sousa will be locks for first round NBA Draft picks with potential for both to be lottery picks.

next years starting lineup as of right now:

Dotson
Grimes
Ochai
Lightfizzle/KJ
Dok

Dok being about 60/40 to stay. I would put Dlawson at 90%+ gone and Grimes at .05% If we get Hurt he'll start at the 4.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/26/19 11:38 AM

If Braun packs on some muscle and is great in early season practices he may start over Grimes
And for some reason I thinks Grimes bails. He hardly looked happy on the court for old KU. My crystal ball predicts him bailing by transfering to Houston so he can be close to the Woodlands..

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/27/19 09:51 AM

braun ain't starting over anyone next year. kid is a r/s candidate. (don't get me wrong, I think the kid is a winner and will be awesome but not next year)

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/27/19 11:00 AM

The kid from KC is supposed to be a shooter. As our roster currently stands we do not have a shooter.

If this kid can shoot he will get minutes next season.

he is from the BFE suburbs (BVNW). he won 3 state 6a titles in a row. He is about 160lbs at 6'5 from what it looks like. (they list him at 175 if that tells you anything)

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/27/19 12:20 PM

Braun is taller than that..might be 6ft 7 by the time bootcamp starts. Wonder what ia 3 pt % was for last season. I watched a few games on Spectrum. Can handle the rock and shoot..not too great on defense.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/27/19 12:28 PM

Missing on Robinson Earl really pisses me off...been to many KU games courtside..many KU camps 100% ours through his junior season..jumps ship to a basket factory high school and commits to Nova. Why cant Bill close the deal on the local good recruits...

people said the same thing about ochai. He might be 6'7 but it doesn't matter as he is a guard that is not strong enough to play the 3 or fast enough for the 2. I think most likely he comes in as a shooter for a few minutes here or there. Like I said though anyone who wins like he did in high school i'm a fan of but its just hard to see him being ready in 8 months. stranger things have happened though.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/27/19 11:36 PM

Here is my instinct:

Dedric will go for the draft (2nd-rd), and KJ will follow because he has no other strong ties here. I wouldn't be shocked to see him re-transfer to Memphis! Silvio will also depart for a professional career, I don't see him winning his appeal.

Udoka is 50/50, his draft stock isn't high but I'm not sure he can raise it by staying another year. He's kind of a finished product by NBA standards, a fringe player in the modern league. I see him leaving too, unfortunately.

Optimistically, I think we will add Hurt and Achiuwa to our recruiting class. With the frontcourt departures listed above, we'll need them. Our depth chart would look like this:

DOTSON - Moore - McBride
GRIMES - Agbaji
GARRETT - Braun
HURT - Lightfoot
MCCORMACK - Achiuwa

Bill aint done recruiting by a long shot...he is going to shock the Jayhawk world to make amends for our underachieving season...ok that's all I got.

Re: 2019-2020 season - 03/29/19 11:37 PM

Do we need Grimes next year to have a good season? I think unless he improves by 100%, he is a waste of a suit.

I don't see either Lawson returning along with Dok. The bright side of all that is I think it will open up some room for other players to come in and we have McCormack who is improving each and every game he has played in.

Don't know how i feel about Moore or Garrett. Garrett can defend and drive the ball, but needs to at least be able to make some 15 foot jump shots.

Silvio might as well go, no reason to sit on bench for another season when he can make some $$$ in Europe. So I won't be surprised if we have 5 current players not here next year.

After watching the Sweet 16 games this week, I have noticed one thing that all of the 16 teams do and did better than I have seen us do all season.........effort and hustle.

We have close to equal talent as any of these teams, but we do not have players who can defend or hustle the way most of these teams have shown.

So what ever it takes to get players to show some heart and passion, thats what Bill needs to find.
