Hawks/Pokes Game Thread - 11/16/19 11:32 AM

Guess no one else wants to do this so I will. Field goal choice not what I was looking for.

No consistent defense or offense will kill us.

Short gain.

Couldn't hold them for three downs.
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

Down 14. Does this mean we'll finally get going or more of the same?

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 11:43 AM

Oh Hum...can't move it on offense and can't stop anyone on defense. Certainty....Death, taxes and KU ineptness in football....

I see Phoggy waited until the game started before GTS.

Down 14. Here is where the comeback starts.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 11:51 AM

Well crap. Who called for that pass play (Int).

Is Miles calling the plays again? This does not feel like Dearmon's first few games. . . .

Well, a stop.

Now we know why McVittie is on the bench.

Stepped them without a score! At least a little better.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 11:55 AM

The team looks "rusty." I do not like bye weeks.

Solid defensive stop.

Stanley's not on so far.
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 11:59 AM

Can't expect the defense to repeat very many stops if they don't get to rest more.
Posted by: AlOerter

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 12:00 PM

So much for Dearmon being the offensive genius. Our offense sucks.
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 12:01 PM

Got to give it up to our punter. He should find a spot in the League.

Wow! Great stop!
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Lay off Dearmon. He is personally responsible for the two best wins this year.

Bet they go for it.

Good stop then a big run.

Guess they're not going to test our defense again.

Time for the offense to show up!

The defense finally has.
Posted by: AlOerter

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 12:08 PM

Bob - If Dearmon gets all the credit when the offense plays well, then he gets blame when they lay a turd.

Defense is playing a heck of a game after a shaky start.

Couldn't blame Pooka one bit if he did go this year. It is going to be R.O.U.G.H. for the next couple of years.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 12:16 PM

It just seems like like with losing like, 8 starters, the offensive is going to have it rough for a while. Like teams giving us prison love, and making us like it, rough. Pooka may see that coming and take his chances. . .
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 12:16 PM

That didn't take long. At least our defense will get to rest for a few plays.

Don't get me wrong, I like Dearmon, but part of coaching is to teach guys to execute. If your squad is performing poorly you are partly to blame as a coach. Something is amiss when we know they can do better and they're not. I still think it's largely the O-line.

Let's recruit some guys!

The way the defense has played, we could be in this game if the offense was showing up.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:17 PM

If this team could ever put together a complete game: Off, Def, and ST, it could be pretty fair. But man, that has been a seemingly insurmountable challenge.
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

3 & out. So what's new?
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:24 PM

The offensive play calling we are seeing today is what LSU fans B!tched about at Death Valley. Makes me wonder if maybe Les was feeling a bit threatened by Dearmon and took play calling back on? Sure does not feel like the same innovative offense that Dearmon showed the first couple of weeks. . .

Hopefully the good we see this year can be built upon next year.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:26 PM

That at least gets the defense off the field for a rest.
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Pokes 2nd team QB throws downfield for a TD. Has Les called for a single deep throw?
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:29 PM

Sad but true: As frustrated as KU FB fans are, not one of us can even imagine what it is like to strap on the helmet and uniform and get embarrassed, week after week.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:34 PM

Thought we'd see something interesting from the Mad Hatter on 4th & Inches. Nope. But the first First down of the half. Take what you can get.
Posted by: Yardbirdbob

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:35 PM

This is mostly on offense. You can’t expect defense to play most of the game and be effective. Our offense the last two games has been awful.
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:36 PM

That gamble didn't work.

That INT. is on coaching. I don't care which one - all of them! WTH is is Miles kid out there throwing BEHIND the receiver. This team is coming apart at the seams now.

Where are the scholarship QBs?????? Get a young one in there and build!

Im outta here!

At least held them to a field goal try. Missed!

Wow!

Parchment did really good on that one. Keeps us alive for a score.

Touchdown!!!! No shutout.

So I was wrong still down 25..
Posted by: Jayhawk1952

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 01:59 PM

That probably ends the possibility of tieing them for the second half.

OSU stopped themselves on that drive. Glad they helped us out.

Two games left to break a decade record of three wins in a season. I think the Baylor game is our best bet. They've had some really close wins.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/16/19 03:20 PM

I think teams saw film on a couple of games of our offense and figured it out. They just don't play with the "pace" they talk about. If you can limit KU on 1st down and get them behind schedule you've got them licked. Also, run blocking is non-existent. And, Stanley is clearly off his game.

You're probably correct on all counts.

Stanley is on his game. His game is inconsistency.... great one game and shitty three games. .... .. similar to my golf game. That’s what he is.... and you are 100% right on the blocking for run plays. Pooka... so much talent but there is nowhere to run.

Track unfortunately seems to be correct about Stanley. Was hoping he had turned the corner this year.

We shouldn’t complain. Stanley on his good days has given us better QB performance than any other QB we have had in years. He just isn’t a top tier QB that can carry us to victory on a regular basis.... those guys are special... and rare.

Re: Hawks/Pokess Game Thread - 11/18/19 05:18 PM

Some QBs are better than others. That's fact, just as some running backs are more talented than others.
The thing is the best running backs AND the best QBs can never achieve their best play behind a line that is dominated by the opposition.
Winning football is predicated on winning at the line of scrimmage. It is as simple as that. I don't doubt that if you put Mahonnes or Russel or Discount Double-check in as our QB we would see some improvement, but even the best QB will struggle under constant harassment. Same with a running back. With nowhere to run the best will go down wherever they catch him.
We simply have to improve our line play on both sides of the ball. If we can do that our skill players will reach their ability level.

Pretty much you are spot on. We didn’t win any national championships with Sayers or Riggo. Mahomes though is a generational player. .... I like our chances against any big 12 teams if he had any eligibility left. .... and let’s get tyreek and Kelsey too.
