Urban Meyer - 08/02/18 08:58 AM

Alright alright i'll say it. Would you be ok with KU hiring him next year since he'll be fired soon from tOSU?

Dude is shady AF but "just win baby" right?

I'd take Urban Meyer as our next head Coach without blinking. As a matter of fact, I hope Long has already called him.

Briles is already working again. Joe Pa is dead....that leaves Meyer or our beloved Buddha. I'd take either over the collection of football morons hired by Lew and Zenger.

Now tell me what in the Meyer report alarms you. Wasn't as though he knocked the wife around. This crappolla of a PC society we now have loves to proclaim the innocent guilty....Meyer's supposed crime isn't earth shattering to me anymore than what Mangino supposedly did.

Let’s see what happens at Ohio state... if he gets fired. I am pretty sure Briles would rather coach in the Big 12 than in Italy.

Not a Briles fan at all. Probably a bad fit here at Kansas after Baylor. Meyer's baggage now is very similar. With Long's reputation of getting a qualified replacement in other colleges, I'm excited to see what he comes up with.

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/02/18 04:18 PM

the two most powerful men in kansas are bill self and bill snyder. i'm not sure that kind of sway is right. look at penn state, fsu, baylor, and now tosu, all due to the improper influence of college coaches/sports; and let us not forget the fbi's ongoing basketball investigation. so, seeing what i read here is either the work of sarcasm, i doubt it, or further proof that ethical (perhaps legal) limits are beyond surreal for fans of the game.

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/02/18 06:35 PM

Ksu's Snyder family has had a suicide lately, so perhaps you feel that way about him. Not feeling too bad about Bill Self and his conduct. "the two most powerful men in Kansas"? Definitely disagree.

I would find a new team to root for if we hired a wife beater but I'm probably just in the minority here.

Nobody has been talking about hiring Smith the alleged wife beater, but rather his boss Meyer.

If reports are correct, the assistant for Urban was the alleged wife beater. But yes, plenty of better candidates to replace Beaty.

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/03/18 07:19 AM

I guess alleged wife beaters will no longer be able to get jobs.
No one will hire them. Society's pendulum swings too far most times.
Should Andy Reid be fired for hiring proven girl friend beater Hill?

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/03/18 07:39 AM

The point is did Urban Meyer lie about the incident. Hard to imagine his wife didn’t tell him that one of his long time assistants engaged in spousal abuse when it is clear his wife knew. It’s the lie and failure to take any action that could /will get him fired. It’s the lie/cover up that did in Nixon,Briles and Paterno.... and maybe Trump.

Not that your assessment of the situation is wrong, it could very well be correct. But, you are assuming that Smith's wife is telling the truth about telling Meyer's wife, but assume Meyer is lying when he says he didn't know. According to the Constitution, one is INNOCENT until proven guilty...I only remind you of this because it is obvious that as a progressive, you either don't care about the law or don't understand the concept.

BTW: Where does this Trump guy coach? Bringing your TDS to the football board is more than a bit odd...but I'll play along.

Not assuming ....It's my understanding there are text messages between the victim and Meyer's wife.

"Courtney Smith, ex-wife of fired Ohio State assistant coach Zach Smith, provided text messages between her and the wives of Ohio State coaches – including Urban Meyer’s wife, Shelley – showing Meyer’s knowledge of the situation.

Meyer said last week during Big Ten Media Days that he had no knowledge of two alleged domestic violence incidents in 2015 with former assistant wide receivers coach Zach Smith that were investigated by the Powell (Ohio) Police Department.

Meyer said had he known, he would have fired Smith in 2015 – three years before he did last week after I reported the alleged domestic violence.

“All the (coaches) wives knew,” Courtney said. “They all did. Every single one.”"

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/03/18 10:23 AM

It's the offseason, so we need something to talk about. But there is no chance urban meyer would ever coach football at KANSAS. There is no chance the new AD is going to hire someone so freshly toxic with his first big hire. No way.

Plus, the state of ohio and tosu is football above all. Not sure this, as is, gets him fired.

So when Old Balls is put into "the home" finally, the review committee for replacement will NOT be made of insiders totally? Unrealistic and really naive on your part sodbuster.

Totally agree about him not coming here and the same can be said about Briles.
If they believe Meyer lied he will be fired. OSU football is bigger than one man.

I think you are missing his point. The review committee he speaks of is the one at tosu that will review whether urban meyer did anything wrong.

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/03/18 12:05 PM

It is mandatory that he reports any suspicion of an offense to the provost's office, from his employment contract.

The question is... Did Meyer’s wife tell him about the abuse by one of his long time assistants. Does anyone believe she wouldn’t have told when she said she was going to in her text message? Hard to imagine he wasn’t informed by his wife.

currently odds are...

I understood his post but fail to understand his insistent posting on a non KSU board. Sod buster board is where he should be going to be preachy.

Not so sure in today's PC climate! Just look at what you wrote...."...failings as a human being." It wasn't that long ago that most people forgave and offered second chances. Not anymore! Just try tweeting something that some snowflake finds offensive and see how long you have a job!

Oh well, it's all about the secular left....they simply don't believe in "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."

This has zero to do with second chances. If Meyer lied and failed to notify authorities about his assistants behavior he is in breech of his contract and that’s grounds for being fired.

As far as the other..... both the religious right and the secular left have plenty of guilt when it comes to casting the first stone. There is not much difference in that regard.

Here it is straight from Meyer....admitting he lied.

The belief of one side's issues is only "for the secular left" is the current environment we live in. Not accurate, but is a mainstream belief.

Well, if Urban has now admitted he lied, and lying on this issue is a contractual obligation requiring termination. I hope the Buckeyes can the guy and that our new AD makes an offer and he gets his chance at redemption at KU. That's my take on it.

Interesting twist. As I understand it he lied in public to the press in response to a question on what he knew. However he reported it back in 2015 to the university. I am not so sure he will get fired now. Sorry beenahawk... I don’t think he is coming to KU regardless.

agree, track. he lied. but hell what coach doesn't lie to the media? no big deal. and yes, he reported the incident following tosu protocol at the time it happened. the issue is with his superiors not urban meyer. time to move on. espn agrees. rece and pretty face falling right in line with the narrative as to not damage one of their prime properties.

Re: Urban Meyer - 08/04/18 10:05 AM

There is still the issue of should he have fired the coach back in 2015 after multiple abuse charges. The thing that strikes me is according to the offender...Urban asked him if he hit his wife and when he assured him no, then it was not a reason to fire him. There is choking and being thrown around that can be abusive without hitting someone. The assistant coach admits to choking and roughing up his wife in a text message.

most coaches have former players who say stuff like that about them after the fact. they got mangino fired after all. one down here said snyder treated them like slaves. i wouldn't put much credence in that video.

The investigation into Meyer's actions ended last night [ Sunday 8-19 ]. They expect the written report sometime this week -- at earliest Wednesday.
