"It's hard to recruit to KU."
That is SO LAME>....Now if you had said, "it's hard to recruit to manhattan" I could agree with you but it's not hard to recruit to KU.....unless you have an ahole as a head coach. The KU campus is one of the prettiest in the nation, it has an excellent academic reputation, it's known as a fun school to attend, it's close to KC and we have some of the best facilities in the nation.

Mind of a typical very good HS player from the state of Texas:
"Let's see now. I'm thinking of UT, OU, TCU, Houston, OSU, A&M, Tech, and....Kansas. Even though Lawrence is too far away for my family to see the games, it's pretty. And the academic reputation is really quite outstanding. And it's a fun school! And, unlike places like UT and OU --- it's got great facilities!"
Uh huh.

Recruiting consists of persuading the athlete and his parents that his best interests, success as he defines it, lies with your program. It's easier for Coach Mangino to recruit the overlooked but talented. All he has to promise and deliver on is a chance to play in the Big 12 to kids who weren't getting many offers. To seriously recruit athletes that are also being recruited by UT, OU, TCU, Houston, OSU, A&M, Tech ... you have to offer more than that. And I'm not talking about facilities, warm weather or pretty coeds. All of those kids think they will play on Sunday, and good proportion of them think they deserve it. That's not to say they're right, but perception is reality.
Jon Cornish's take was interesting. The type of kid recruited changed, but the coaching methods didn't. That's not all on the kid.
-------------------- Whatever.

Please explain to me then how Bill Self or Roy Williams was able to recruit kids to KU that were from New York, california, Texas,alaska,etc...HUH HUH?????....You assume all kids want to stay close to home...obviously some do but a lot more don't and are willing to travel great distances for an opportunity to play for a great coach and to play at KU.....but then Mangino is no Roy or Bill Self.

Question for you.
You are slamming Mangino (it appears), and think the reason why our recruits aren't up to what you want is because of him.
If he's so shitty and it's just him, why is it he's the 2nd winningest coach in the entire history of KU football? HUH HUH???????

Dude, your a joke. If your are a former player, which you obviously are not, you would come out publicly about your feelings toward coach M. What is your name, or just tell us your position you played. Get a life and quit trying to claim your somebody you are not. Or, if you honestly feel this way about coach M than don't be afraid to back up what you say.
Thanks for your insight...it's nice seeing your true colors. I must apologize if I live a life, have a professional career, am representing this University in a career outside of football, and could careless about dragging my name through this $hitstorm just to get 15 minutes of fame (as Mangino put it). Hasn't this entire situation already embarrased the University enough? It's funny, in my opinion, how you can easily believe some of the anonymous information that has been placed in the media by speculation and sources, but when I place a post on here in the same manner...oh so quickly to bash it. I guess if I emailed my post to an ESPN or something then it'd be legitimate.
Nice post...keep it up.

That is SO LAME>....Now if you had said, "it's hard to recruit to manhattan" To most kids out-of-state, they don't know the difference between manhattan and Lawrence, to them it's all the same. KansasI could agree with you but it's not hard to recruit to KU Actually it is, that's one reason why we are a mediocre football program historically.....unless you have an ahole as a head coach. Can be one reason, but not the sole reason The KU campus is one of the prettiest in the nationWhile a nice bonus, that's not a major factor on why a kid wants to go to that school. No kid ever states "oh, the reason why I went to X University is because I really liked their campus, it has an excellent academic reputationI'm a KU grad and I received a very good education from KU, but to say it has an "excellent" academic reputation in the grand scheme of things is a stretch, it has a good reputation, esp for a public school, but not "excellent", it's known as a fun school to attend Many big public Universities are, and again it's a nice bonus but not a deciding factor, it's close to KC and we have some of the best facilities in the nation. Not really, esp the football, they are a LOT better than before, but just look at the stadium, it's a negative, period

I'll take you for your word.
Thanks for your insights and thank you for playing for and representing Kansas. I don't know if you read these boards much before posting here, but take everything with a grain of salt.
And don't mind YUP, in his defense, there are several people who come on here who act like they know what they are talking about, or have "inside info", etc etc etc. (Not in just this situation either) so YUP is probably just jaded.
Thanks again.

The one remaining variable is the "99 percenters" that Mangino says are out there that we all need to hear from. Kirk Herbstreit just said that if this stuff was coming out against his coach, and it wasn't true, he'd be taking up arms. If you and others like you went to ESPN or the LJW, like you said, your comments absolutely would be taken legitimately.
Seriously, the whole football world is waiting on the edge of their seats to hear from you guys. The silence from the 99 percenters is deafening.
I can accept the reality that Mangino is enough of a SOB that you guys don't feel compelled enough to stick your neck out for him. That seems to be the case.

And you're telling me the KUSports journalists aren't frequenting these message boards right now...they could easily garner this information from here utilizing an anonymous source...once it got placed on the main page, ESPN would pick up on the information. It's the fact that the journalists want something to talk about and could careless about anything positive regarding Mangino...they want to keep the story going...obviously with the article placed on the page today about the contract.
Anyway, good luck. I hope we beat Texas today and send Mangino out the way he deserves to go out...he built this program back to very respectable and has done a lot for it...I'm just afraid, like mentioned in another thread, that he is a dead man walking when it comes to his job.
Take care...I'm done posting on this. I got my POV out there which is all I desired from the beginning.

Is respectable what you strived for as a football player?
If the '06 team should have been 10-2, what was it that made you guys keep coming up short?
With first hand experience, is it reasonable to expect KU to compete for Big 12 North titles year in and year out?
Do you personally think Mangino is the best we can do?
