WOW ...
Is THAT a major understatement!!!!!!!
I'm actually listening to Whitlock guest host on Jim Rome.
GeorgiaHawk should be happy.

Please don't talk down Ohio State's Buckeyes. Surely you wouldn't want them to deprive them of participating in the next BCS title game.

Not if KU gets the chance to embarrass them!
I finally had to turn Whitlock off, I'm surprised I almost made it an hour.

I heard him also, and just like always, everything comes down to Whitlock being the center of attention.

UM.....pretty much everyone in the country has trouble defending the spread. That is why so many teams are adopting the offense or at least including some of the sets from the offense.

I read somewhere that there's a defense called "The Stack" that seems to work pretty well against it ...
something like 3-3-5, relies on quality linebackers.
I'll try to find that again.

West Virginia runs this as a base defense. It requires several hybrid S/LB position players that have both size and speed. They are asked to cover alot of space on the field in both pass coverage and run support.

Ohio State is a sham of a team.

Any defense that can get good pressure on the qtrback with just 4 down linemen without blitzing can be effective against the spread.

Good defensive coaches always catch up to the latest offensive formation and scheme. It just takes a while.
It took quite a while to crack "the wishbone."

I find it ironic that this is posted on an Ohio State web site, but it explains the theory and strategy behind the 3-3-5.

The one thing that the OSU board article does not mention is that it is an absolute must that the OLB's and both safeties are extremely sound in tackling fundamentals as well as being disciplined in their assignments. Fast, athletic players with poor tackling skills make The Stack crumble like a house of cards no matter how fast the defenders.
That article also mentions presnap movement by the DL and LB's. That will work on inexperienced QB's, but guys that have been running the offense, like Reesing and (GULP) Daniel, would eat that up.
